Gambling includes any activity that involves betting (or risking) anything of value on a game or event with an uncertain outcome. Gambling doesn’t always involve money; some people bet with other items of value such as electronics, candy bars or jewelry. Although most teens will not go on to develop a gambling problem, they should be aware of the risks associated with gambling.
Common types of youth gambling:
- Betting on games of personal skill
- Sports betting/fantasy sports
- Betting on card or dice games
- Playing lottery games
- Buying scratch off tickets
In Oregon, all types of organized gambling are illegal before age 18.
